Mt. Kilimanjaro Summit Trekking

Shira Plateau, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania . A group of trekkers relaxing at Shira campsite on Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. Well earned break!

On this once-in-a-lifetime trek, take in extraordinary views extending hundreds of miles and experience the sunrise from the Roof of Africa!

Soaring above the rippling tea plantations and low hills of northeastern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro (19,340 feet) is Africa’s highest peak.

  • Follow the less-traveled Shira Route up the western slope, hiking eight days through the spectacular landscapes of five temperate zones.
  • Climb the Marangu Route, seeing diverse ecosystems from rainforest to alpine desert.
  • Navigate Kilimanjaro’s Lemosho Route, the most scenic on the mountain. Cross six ecological zones, from lush rainforest to the harsh, beautiful arctic zone.
  • Extend your trip with a safari; unforgettable wildlife viewing is the perfect reward. Venture into the Ngorongoro Crater, home to a fantastic spectacle of big game. Then it’s on to the world’s most famous wildlife reserve, Serengeti National Park, where we can sleep, in true safari style, in walled tents. Also visit Lake Manyara National Park, a serene place where a vast alkaline soda lake is home to flocks of pink flamingos and pods of hippos.

There are few personal accomplishments more rewarding than the summiting of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Roof of Africa that rises abruptly from the surrounding savannah. Its apex offers the best view of the sunrise, as the plains below are bathed in golden light—a perfect capstone to this immense challenge.
